Abstract |
Diabetes and hypertension are closely inter-related, with the existence of one increasing the risk of the other. They share common pathogenic features and must be carefully managed. In diabetes, control of blood pressure particularly ranks high along with glycemic control in preventing adverse health outcomes. Despite the need for achieving normotension in diabetes, one must be prudent in the choice of antihypertensive agent because of the potential diabetogenic potential of these drugs. A careful analysis and matching of drug with the patient profile is necessary for achieving control to prevent or postpone complications.
